Education connectivity revolution

There’s a quiet revolution underway helping Tasmanian students connect to a world class education, and TasmaNet is proud to be playing a major role. 

TasmaNet CEO Rob Vernon joined Tasmanian Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Jeremy Rockliff, at Kings Meadows High School this week to mark the build completion of nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet fibre connections to 59 public schools around the state. 

TasmaNet now delivers dependable nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet fibre connectivity to more than 100 Tasmanian schools and colleges, helping to remove historical barriers to learning for students, and unlocking access to the digital resources and online collaboration central to a modern education.

Federal Minister for Communications, Paul Fletcher, announced that more than 80 per cent of Tasmanian students now have access to fibre connections, up from less than 50 per cent of students only two years ago.

Tasmania has become the highest ranked state for school broadband speeds, with around 76 per cent of public schools receiving speeds greater than 99 Mbps. 

TasmaNet connected the first nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet service in Australia, for Hobart’s St Michael’s Collegiate School, only two years ago and has rapidly become the provider of choice for schools and colleges around the country upgrading their connectivity to meet the bandwidth and security demands placed on networks by every student learning online simultaneously via a laptop or tablet.

TasmaNet CEO Rob Vernon is proud that students and educators at more than one third of all Tasmanian schools and colleges, including almost the entire Catholic Education system in the state, are benefiting from the symmetrical download and upload speeds up to nearly 1 Gbps offered by TasmaNet nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet services.
